Testimonials

1950s

"I joined the Boys & Girls Club in 1950 and have been actively involved ever since. My greatest memory from the club is the strong moral values that I gained and having a place to go to get off the streets."

Wendell Smith

1960s

"I have been a member of the Boys & Girls Club ever since the 5th grade. It was a second home for my brothers and me to go and get homework done and hang out with friends. I really value the long lasting friendships and relationships with mentors."

Jimmy Smit

"I became a member of the Boys & Girls Club in Goleta when I was in Junior High School in approximately 1964.  I remember the sports teams I was a part of the most and just dropping in on the weekends.  I learned tolerance and experienced diversity."

Paul Menzel

"I became involved with the Club in 1968. Being selected the Boy of the Year in 1976 is my greatest memory of accomplishment. My experience there taught me the importance of leadership, diversity and inclusion"

Pat DeReuda

1970s

"I have been a member since the 2nd grade and I am still involved with the club. I loved playing baseball, basketball, flag football, and lots of other activities. I look at the activities my kids are involved in today and compare them to my experience. The Boys & Girls Club is bar none the best, nothing to compare it to. The most valuable lessons that I gained were dealing with diverse people, team work, and respecting authority."

Jerry Karczewski

"I joined the club when I was 8 or 9 through junior high. I participated in baseball, basketball, and football. Once high school began I continued at the Club as a referee, camp counselor, and frequent visitor.  I did some refereeing and coaching from time to time thereafter. Without a doubt, my greatest memory is playing traveling team and all star basketball. I have great friends today from that very team. I gained the values of goal setting, responsibility, dedication, and teamwork."

Marc Gamberdella

1990s

"I have been coming here since freshman year. It has always been a place where I can come and hang out and do my homework. I was youth of the year in 2003. I graduated last year and now I work at the club. I enjoy being around the kids."
