Magda Arroyo - Unit Director, Santa Barbara West Clubhouse
Magda Arroyo is a Santa Barbara native who attended Mckinley Elementary, Santa Barbara Junior High and graduated from Santa Barbara High School before launching a career in banking and the financial services industry. Along the way, she realized her true passion in helping the youth of our community.
Through her personal experience, she is familiar with the life that leads our youth into gangs and is strongly committed to change.
Magda has served in leadership positions with many local nonprofit organizations, including The Unity Shoppe, Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, Police Activities League and Girls Inc. In 2005, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Santa Barbara Police Officers Association. She is a former Santa Barbara Foundation Katherine Harvey Fellow, Class of 2006-2008.
In September of 2009, the United Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara County appointed Magda as the Westside Unit director as well as the club’s Director of Development.
Magda's unique life and business experiences qualifies her well for this critical position in helping today’s youth achieve their full potential.
Notes for Notes - Music Box
The MUSICBOX has arrived!
At the heart of Notes for Notes programs are the MusicBox Studios—drop-in recording studio environments where youth can gain regular, free access to a wide variety of musical instruments, expert instruction, and the tools to create and record their own music.
While the MusicBox Studios offer a relatively unrestricted environment for youth to explore music and instruments, they feature a variety of programs, which provide focus and direction for the students involved. Programs are staffed by expert musicians and “music technologists,” (i.e., persons well-versed in the intricacies of digital recording). Staff comprises paid individuals, volunteers, and guest artists/speakers. Instrument-specific programs offer multiple educational approaches from traditional mastery of fundamental techniques to teaching students how to play specific songs of their choosing.
MusicBoxes are open to all youth between the ages of 6-18, however we are always willing to work with any person that may fall just outside these age ranges. We strongly believe in the power of collaboration and interaction through music regardless of age. All locations are FREE, however we do ask that you register as a member of the Boys and Girls Club which also carries a $20/year membership. The Club is always willing to work with families and participants regarding membership fees and payment schedules.
