Arts and Crafts

The Arts and Crafts room is an ever-changing, fun and dynamic part of our center. We have many creative options including several new permanent "Art Zones" set up around the room for guided daily use. Overall, we have a well-stocked and prolific department with a wide variety of artistic opportunities for our members, where fun and learning merges happily with the ever-changing world of art.

Our members can enjoy painting, drawing, coloring, sewing, (hand and machine) jewelry making, ceramics including a kick-wheel for throwing clay pots, handcrafts, nature arts, and even a woodworking section for older art students. We offer daily instructed art classes in a range of mediums, and always have open art for those that just want to do their own thing. The Arts and Crafts department expands beyond the classic arts to encompass vocational, domestic and practical life skills as well. We teach basic kitchen etiquette and cooking classes (that all in the center enjoy), aimed at learning the true joy and self-empowerment that cooking and helping in the kitchen brings. We offer classes in improvisational theatre arts and work with the fundamentals of rhythm and our bi-monthly "Science of Art" classes melds the excitement of science with the beauty of art as we learn about the physical world.
